We are currently owners of four Irish Wolfhounds. My very first dog after I got married was a beautiful Great Pyrenees. Soon we will be moving to 25 acres with horses and some sheep. Do you think that a Pyr would get along with the Iw's? He would be a member of our pack but hopefully also be a help herding the sheep and horses? Your dogs are beautiful I love the dark markings. Do you actually work your dogs or concentrate on confirmation?

I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your website. I have a Great Pyrenees named Duchess, and she's a year old. She is the best dog I have ever had. I have 3 very high energy/spirited boys and THEY can't keep up with her. She has a wonderful temperament and is very very playful. She's also extremely affectionate and has literally been a godsend. I have never had a problem with her biting or excessive barking. I would recommend this dog to anyone that has children. I have a 10, 5 and 2 year old and this dog has a high tolerance for small children. One question I do have....is there any other websites that goes into much more detail about these dogs? I would like to know what their life span is and since they are big dogs, what kind of bone diseases should I look for? Thanks again for sharing your website. Veronica

Hi! Your dogs are absolutely beautiful. I have never owened a Greatpyreneese but have loved them ever since the first time I saw one. Im a lady truck driver and used to run coast to coast. I stoped in Little Sisters WY to fuel my truck and Shower. There was a young couple there with two kids and this georgious white dog I walked over and asked what breed he was and was told he was a Greatpyreneese. I made up my mind then and there that after my rotty passed,If I ever got another dog that would be the breed. After 15 years of breeding rotties the insurance for thier breed went outragious. I thought though that my Little Bear would be around for a good 10 years but unfortunately she passed of a brain hemerage just before turning 7, Thats been a year ago now and I'm looking for an all white female with good blood lines. I'm looking to go back to breeding since I have now been diagniosed as a diabetic and its real hard to maintain a diet out on the road. I not going to pick just any puppy, I want to know a little more about breed first.

Hi,We have a male pyrenees Goliath 11 months old that we have had since a puppy. We moved from ok. to missouri and we dont have a place to keep him. So we gave him to a couple with 120 acers and they love him but cant keep him from running away. My husband and I cryed for 2 days, so where happy to be getting him back. But we know we cant keep him on a chain we think he will get depressed. We would like to find someone for him that has a fenced back yard.He loves to play fetch and watch tv. I know we have spoiled him but he gives so much joy to us. If we do every get a place were we can have one, we will get one. Because they are wonderful loving dogs...Sad but dont know what to do.

I never heard of this breed until looking on petfinder.com. My husband and I were looking to replace our beautiful German Shepard who sadly had to be put to sleep. After finding an ad from a couple who needed to adopt out their 15 month old male we looked up the breed and jumped at the opertunity. While waiting for the owners to decide on who the male was going to, we purchased a 5 month old female at a pet store. A goregous non-papered girl with slight color on her ears. Five days later we got the call that the male was ours. He's from a strong blood line, totally white and very well behaved. The dogs get along great, they require lots of hair maintance, and nothing is out of reach for these giants! Beware new puppy owners... these little ones will chew EVERYTHING!!!!! But their so adorable.

Your web site and family of Pyrs is absolutely wonderful!! When we added a Pry to our family 3 yrs ago we had no idea how wonderful they are. We have another very large dog but are close to deciding on another addition to our family. We are undecided between another Pyr and a St. Bernard. I'm so attached to the Pyr we have and am a bit prejudice. I think they live longer and are generally healthier than the Saint. Any input on this to help us decide?

I really didn't hear of a GP until I married my wife of 16yrs and she had one as a child and always wanted another. We lucked out and found a breeder with eight pups and we got an awesome deal. My wife's Gp as a kid was Snowbear so she named our new male bear in memory of Snowbear he is a great pet and makes a good companion for our Black Lab who is 12 and needs a friend it has all worked out for all of us.

Hello All; I have two beautiful 15 month old Pyrs; siblings, male and female. I am looking for a new home for them, however, because my yard is too small, and I live in the suburbs; they are escape artists, and my neighbors have had enough. They are indoor/outdoor dogs, but cannot tolerate the heat at all. It breaks my heart to give them up, but I must. They have to stay together. Both are neutered, all shots, excellent health, will supply vet records. They are affectionate but need to be socialized more. I will be very discriminating about their new home. Please email me if you reside in my area. Thanks

I have three Great Pyrenees. Moses is 1 1/2 years old, Molly is 1 year old, and Noah is my new 6 week old puppy. I cannot say enough about these dogs. I live in the country with some acreage along a creek. My neighbor is 70 years old also with some acreage. Every day Moses and Molly walk their perimeter, checking on both properties. They also sit in my neighbors front yard and bark till she comes out and talks to them. They do this to make sure she is ok. If she does not respond they will come back to the house and get us. They have their routines during the day but at night they love to be close to the house. Most of the time they stay in the house at night. They love to be lap dogs. That is the way we raised them. There's nothing like a gentle giant in your lap watching TV at night. We also used to have a problem with coyotes, not no more. If you like big, furry, protective, gentle and most of all wonderful with children, then this is the dog for you. I have other dogs and they guard them everyday. They are their protectors. I will always have a Great Pyrenees or two in my home.

I lost my beautiful two Gr Pyrs within a year. Tasha died at 15.5 yrs August 2003 and I had to put Austin (her son) down in September 2002. Anyone that has loved their dogs knows what a tragedy losing them can be. Because of my deep love for Austin and Tasha, I got another GP and named him Boomer. He is a magnificent looking dog. Just recently Mattie (a young GP rescue) accepted me as her new Mom. Mattie is blossoming with tender loving care. Great Pyrs are not for everyone but they are for me. I just had to help one more GP and I know Austin and Tasha look down on me with approval.

My husband and I were driving on a back road looking for rocks, and saw a huge white snow bank, we thought, until it moved, I instantly fell in love and stopped to ask the people what kind of dog it was. Then I began my search on the internet and found this wonderful site. Within days we had found a breeder and we now have had Solomon for 4 days. What a joy, he is the greatest dog I've ever shared my life with. After four days, he already can shake hands, and is almost potty trained. I have never known a more perfect dog. He already knows the barriers of our property and never crosses it. My problem is, I'm so in love with him, I carry him around and make him a lap dog. My husband's fear is that Solomon will expect to be a lap dog when he's a hundred pounds. I'm so glad he's in my life now and I thank this web site for being such a wonderful help in my decision.

We adopted a Pyre last Nov, from pound, the pyr rescue called and let us know she was there, we think she is a little over one, she was dropped off at the night box and was covered in fleas. She had been beaten and has a scar on her nose. I have had sooooo many animals and lovely dogs but none compare to this breed Shammie(simce they are from the Shamminique foothills in France we named her Shammie) I took her to obediance class at Petsmart she passed with flying colors, I became the "alpha" dog and put her in her place (they are very stubborn) she is the joy of our family a couple of drawbacks to look for...they love to chew and have powerful jaws, I found it very difficult to find suitable chew toys as they were all so small to scale for her and we are not big fans of rawhide, when we left her she would chew (nibble) on edges of crapet or furniture I'm not sure whether she was nervous anyway I hit the jackpot and thought I'd share with you all there are pacjkages of "marrow soup bones " at your grocer, about $3.00 for a package of 5-6 they are small totally round bones filled with marrow I buy them by bulk and whenever we leave her for a few hours we give her a bone! She is obssessd with these things , she has a basket she keeps them in and takes them out and fondles them and nibbles on old and new! great tip...also for those of you who are thinking of adopting or buying one soon..know this - they LOVE to run away it's in their breed so be prepared to have a fence yard and be prepared when they go they don't come back and they are super smart and it's quite an event to catch them!! anyway we just adore our lap Pyr she jumps in our lap and just loves attention great with kids and other dogs(most of the time) thanks!

My wife and I have had a Great Pyr for years. Our bitch, Rainsong, and the sire, Thunder, has pedigreees that are outstanding. Their third litter produced Moonbeam, Starshine and Storm. Unfortunately, Storm is deaf. The greatest, most powerful, most gentle dog with great badger markings. He is so destructive due to his deafness that we must give him away. I am afraid if he gets loose as large as he is at six months that people will fear him as he is deaf and cannot communicate other than sign language. My wife has taught him sign language, and he responds to her. If anyone would like to adopt Storm, please send notification to: greatpyrranch@msn.com. Due to a new grandbaby, jobs, a new move, etc., we do not have the time to devote to the sweetest, most gentle giant. He will make someone who has more time than us the most wonderful member of their family. With great sadness, let us know.

Hi! I've owned Pyrs for twenty years now, and I never want to live without at least one close by my side. Just came down to the civilized world after five months on my wilderness fire lookout--but very sadly, without my best of buds, Koda, a champion Pyr and the sweetest canine gentleman ever. At nearly eleven years of age, Koda decided to exit this life amid the stunning scenery of the Idaho mountain wilds. I still have beautiful Aspen, a glorious Karolaska bitch, with me here at my log cabin in the woods, but I realize I need to welcome another male of exemplary type into our lives. If any of you knows of some such suitable puppy, I'd appreciate a heads-up on him. Thanks.

All of the dogs are just so beautiful. I have an 9 month old male Great Pyrenees. He was the runt of the litter, but in the end he turned out to be the largest. He had very light markings, which now he is solid white, with dark gorgeous eyes. He now weighs over 100 pounds and continues to grow. He is also very protective over me. All I have to say is that I love my dog very much, and I think every one that loves large breeds of dogs should own a Great Pyrenees. I loved all of your pictures they are so beautiful. The puppies are so cute! It seems like not to long ago my baby was that little also. Well you made a wonderful website, perfect for Great Pyrenees lovers.

Hey what beautiful dogs you have! I have 2 Pyrenees that stay with my goats most of the time. One comes in the yard with my 5 other dogs (pitt bulls, blue tick hounds)the other never leaves the goats. The Pyrenees rules all, even puts my pitt bulls in their place! These dogs need to be more popular! People do not know what they are missing! Guard your property, kids and animals and are so loving and sweet! I do not show dogs but if decide to get into dog showing (after I get tired of horses and goats....SOON) I will contact you for a puppy! I brag about these dogs to everyone and EVERYONE who comes to my place is in love with "Sophia" my female Pyrenees. She is the best dog I have ever owned and I have and have had MANY a dog breed! Thanks and keep up the good work with these dogs, they are popular with my goat raising friends but make good house dogs too! Sophia had an operation on her hip (got rolled over by a car as a puppy...slept under a car!) I had to leave her in the house and she NEVER had an accident and went to the door to go outside by herself..TRULY INTELLIGENT DOGS Everybody should have at least one!

I am so in love with the Great Pyrenese Dog. I first learned about them on Animal Planet's Breed All About It. I just recently found that a friend of a friend just got a Great Pyr. I got to see him and my children spent some time with him. They truly are as great as they say with children. I would love to know of any breeders in the Pennsylvania area that have litters upcoming. Hope soon to be able to say I am the proud owner of a sweet Great Pyr.

I have had my Great Pyr for almost 5 years. He is a most wonderful companion. His gentle nature and loving personalty has won the admiration of all the neighborhood. Children knock on the door and want to know if Zebadiah can come out to play with them. He has three cats that he takes very patient care of. I don't know what I did before I got him. I started showung some ten years ago with a Pyr girl and over the years have had three Pyrs and two Newfs. I am curenty dogless and missing the company of my canine family. I would dearly love to have another Pyr and bring one in from the U.S, as the gene pool is not very strong here in Australia. Anyway I have seen your Puppies and they are beautiful, I must admit that I picked Liz from the begining and was pleased to see how lovely she looked at ten months. Liz for me is my idea of a lovely bitch. Thank you for the web site and I would recomend it to fellow and new Pyr people.

Absolutely beautiful dogs. One of our favorites was "Bucky" I knew the Charles McConnell's who had the Cavalier Kennel in the Seattle area back in the 70's and early 80's. They were consired "Quibbletown West." I used to beat the pants off Cavalier One Eyed Jack all the time with Ch Karolaska Forty Niner! I was fortunate to watch Gene Hanlen handle Chuck's great champion "Kip" to many BOB's etc. I first got into the breed in Alaska with a bitch from the Karolaska Kennel. As you know their top foundation bitch and one of their stud dogs came from the Smith's. Anyway your website is the best. Absolutely beautiful dogs. Thank you for that wonderful tribute to Quibbletown.
